The idea
Use die Frist for the nominative singular, die Frist for the accusative, der Frist for the dative, and der Frist for the genitive. In the dative plural use den Fristen.
| Kasus | Singular | Plural |
|---|---|---|
| Nominativ | die Frist | die Fristen |
| Akkusativ | die Frist | die Fristen |
| Dativ | der Frist | den Fristen |
| Genitiv | der Frist | der Fristen |
Meaning and useful combinations
Frist can be the allowed period up to a deadline. Termin is a scheduled point or appointment, so the nouns are not identical.
Useful combinations: eine Frist einhalten; die Frist verlängern; innerhalb der Frist. Practise each as a complete phrase; the article belongs to the noun even when an adjective comes between them.
Article check: nominative singular
das Fristdie FristThis check asks for the nominative singular: die Frist. In the meaning taught here, Frist is feminine. The nominative plural is die Fristen. Learn both forms together; an English translation does not determine German gender.

Watch out
Do not transfer the gender of a translated word into German. The basic learning pair is die Frist — die Fristen. Frist can be the allowed period up to a deadline. Termin is a scheduled point or appointment, so the nouns are not identical.
