The idea
Use das Haus for the nominative singular, das Haus for the accusative, dem Haus for the dative, and des Hauses for the genitive. In the dative plural use den Häusern.

Meaning and useful combinations
Haus usually refers to a whole building; Wohnung is an apartment inside one.
