The idea
Read a sentence with two possible referents and list both. Ask a neutral clarification question rather than guessing. Rewrite the original using the person's name or object label and check that the intended meaning is now explicit.

A concrete practice sequence
Read a sentence with two possible referents and list both. Ask a neutral clarification question rather than guessing. Rewrite the original using the person's name or object label and check that the intended meaning is now explicit.
Check the model sentence
Nora ruft Lea an, weil sie den Schlüssel hat. (Nora ist gemeint)Nora hat den Schlüssel und ruft deshalb Lea an.The rewrite makes Nora the explicit key holder instead of leaving sie ambiguous.

Watch out
Do not confuse ambiguity with a grammatical error. A sentence can be grammatical yet need more context; the correction may be naming the referent, not changing the pronoun's case.
Try it yourself
Frage nach: „Sie bringt die Tasche.“ Zwei Frauen wurden genannt.
Show answer or example answer
Meinen Sie Nora oder Lea?
Naming both possible people resolves the reference without assuming an answer.
Ist ein mehrdeutiges Pronomen immer grammatisch falsch?
Show answer or example answer
Nein, manchmal fehlt nur eindeutiger Kontext.
Grammatical form and clarity of reference are separate questions.
Schreibe eine neue Variante des letzten Beispiels. Ändere eine konkrete Information und behalte den Satzbau bei.

The last example supplies a sentence pattern, not a single compulsory answer. Change a detail that fits the situation and keep the verb, case and meaning consistent.

Repeat the sequence with a fresh situation. When a German pronoun has an unclear reference, ask which person or object the speaker means. Repeating the relevant noun can make your own message clearer. Correct grammar alone does not guarantee that a listener can identify what er, sie or es refers to. Keep one first attempt and one correction so you can compare what you produced before seeing a model.
