Turn a German error log into a new attempt

The idea

Classify one error as word choice, word order or word form. Write the smallest correction that fixes it. The next day, use the pattern with another subject or object before looking at the log. Keep both attempts so you can compare them.

A concrete practice sequence

Check the model sentence

• Gestern wir haben die Ausstellung besucht. → Gestern haben wir die Ausstellung besucht.

  Gestern is first, so the finite auxiliary haben comes second before wir.

Watch out

Do not treat a label such as bad grammar as an explanation. Name the actual change and its condition, such as a finite verb moving after a fronted time phrase.

   The last example supplies a sentence pattern, not a single compulsory answer. Change a detail that fits the situation and keep the verb, case and meaning consistent.

Use it today

Repeat the sequence with a fresh situation. An error log becomes useful when each entry leads to another attempt. Keep the original sentence, the correction and a short explanation of the change. Then test the same pattern with new content instead of repeatedly reading the corrected line. Keep one first attempt and one correction so you can compare what you produced before seeing a model.
