A concrete practice sequence

Use the device read-aloud control for these six sentences if a German voice is available. Hide the text during the first two passes. Write the main action after pass one and a full sentence after pass two. Open the transcript only for the final comparison.

Check the model sentence

  • Der Kurs beginnt um halb neunen. Der Kurs beginnt um halb neun.

The clock expression is halb neun without a noun ending on neun.

Using this beside glotworld

Use these original examples as a separate practice sheet before or after a game session. glotworld offers A1, A2, B1 practice for German learners, with meanings and help in 12 languages, including English and Turkish. A microphone is not required. The game does not score pronunciation or award a language certificate; these exercises do not claim to appear in a particular game scene.

Read-aloud uses a synthetic German voice available on your device. Voice quality and availability vary; it does not assess your pronunciation.

Watch out

A synthetic voice is a controlled reading aid, not a sample of every real speaker. Do not infer that understanding this voice means you will understand a noisy announcement equally well.

Try it yourself

  1. Welche Uhrzeit bedeutet „halb neun“?

    Show answer or example answer

    8:30 Uhr

German halb neun names the half hour before nine, so the time is 8:30.

  2. Schreibe die Zahl aus: „Der Raum ist im 2. Stock.“

    Show answer or example answer

Der Raum ist im zweiten Stock.

Im is in dem; the ordinal adjective takes the dative ending in zweiten Stock.

  3. Schreibe eine neue Variante des letzten Beispiels. Ändere eine konkrete Information und behalte den Satzbau bei.

    Show answer or example answer

Muster zum Variieren: Um elf Uhr sammeln wir die fertigen Blätter ein.

The last example supplies a sentence pattern, not a single compulsory answer. Change a detail that fits the situation and keep the verb, case and meaning consistent.

Use it today

Repeat the sequence with a fresh situation. For a short German dictation, first listen for the message, then write the key words, and finally check endings against the transcript. Separating those tasks makes the source of an error visible: meaning, word recognition or spelling. Keep one first attempt and one correction so you can compare what you produced before seeing a model.
