The idea
Found items are described with adjectives for colour, size and features, and their endings follow the article: die blaue Tasche, einen weißen Anhänger. Haben takes the accusative, so a masculine noun after ein becomes einen. Der Fundort is where something was found. Ohne takes the accusative: ohne lesbaren Namen. “Die Zuordnung klären” means finding out whom something belongs to; über plus accusative names the channel.
Other ways to say it
“Im Aufenthaltsraum lag eine blaue Tasche.” – Neutral narrative style with liegen in the simple past.
“Weiß jemand, wem die blaue Tasche gehört?” – Casual question to the team; gehören takes the dative wem.
“Fundstück: blaue Tasche, weißer Anhänger, Fundort Aufenthaltsraum.” – Compact list format for a handover note.
Examples
- Die blaue Tasche wurde im Aufenthaltsraum gefunden. The blue bag was found in the lounge.
- Ist sie bereits eindeutig zugeordnet?Has it already been clearly matched to someone?
- Nein, bisher kennen wir nur den Fundort. No, so far we only know where it was found.
- Dann halten Sie Aussehen und Fundort fest. Then record its appearance and where it was found.
- Sie hat einen weißen Anhänger ohne lesbaren Namen. It has a white tag without a legible name.
- Die Zuordnung klären wir über den vorgesehenen Kontakt. We will clarify ownership through the designated contact.

Watch out
“Sie hat ein weißer Anhänger.” → “Sie hat einen weißen Anhänger.”: Haben needs an accusative object. Masculine nouns show this clearly: ein becomes einen and the adjective ending becomes -en. Learners often keep the nominative because the colour word comes first.
Try it yourself
Translate into German: The blue bag was found in the lounge.
Show answer or example answer
Die blaue Tasche wurde im Aufenthaltsraum gefunden.
Simple past passive: “wurde … gefunden”. “Die blaue Tasche” is the subject, and “im Aufenthaltsraum” is the dative place where it was found.
Put the words in order: bisher / den / Fundort / kennen / Nein / nur / wir
Show answer or example answer
Nein, bisher kennen wir nur den Fundort.
“Bisher” opens the clause, so “kennen” comes before “wir”. “Nur den Fundort” is masculine accusative and limits what is known.
Write this sentence in German: We will clarify ownership through the designated contact.
Show answer or example answer
Die Zuordnung klären wir über den vorgesehenen Kontakt.
The object “Die Zuordnung” comes first, then “klären wir”. “Über den vorgesehenen Kontakt” uses über plus accusative to name the agreed channel.
