The idea

“Eine Bitte um Rückruf” uses bitten um / die Bitte um plus accusative. Vorliegen is separable: “es liegt … vor”. Zurückrufen is separable too: “Wer ruft zurück?”, but after a modal the infinitive stays whole: “Wer soll zurückrufen?” Time windows use zwischen … und or von … bis; do not mix them. Weitergeben (to pass on) splits: “ich gebe … weiter”. Three bare nouns in a row, Name, Kontakt und Zeitfenster, are typical of compact handover language.

Other ways to say it

“Frau Berger bittet um Rückruf.” – Short, neutral note format with the caller’s name first.

“Sie möchte bitte zurückgerufen werden, am besten heute Nachmittag.” – Spoken style; passive infinitive plus a preferred time.

“Rückruf erbeten, erreichbar von 14 bis 16 Uhr.” – Telegraphic written style common on notes and in tickets.

Examples

  • Es liegt eine Bitte um Rückruf vor. There is a request for a callback.
  • Wer soll die Person zurückrufen?Who should call the person back?
  • Sie möchte mit der zuständigen Koordination sprechen. They would like to speak to the responsible coordinator.
  • Ist eine erreichbare Uhrzeit angegeben? Is a time when they can be reached given?
  • Ja, heute zwischen vierzehn und sechzehn Uhr.Yes, today between two and four in the afternoon.
  • Dann gebe ich Name, Kontakt und Zeitfenster weiter. Then I will pass on the name, contact details and time window.

Watch out

“Sie ist zwischen vierzehn bis sechzehn Uhr erreichbar.” → “Sie ist zwischen vierzehn und sechzehn Uhr erreichbar.”: Zwischen pairs with und, while von pairs with bis. Mixing the two, “zwischen … bis”, is a very common slip, also among Germans, but it is considered incorrect in writing.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: There is a request for a callback.

    Show answer or example answer

Es liegt eine Bitte um Rückruf vor.

“Es” is a placeholder subject; the real subject, “eine Bitte um Rückruf”, follows. Vorliegen splits into “liegt … vor”, a typical office way to say something is pending.

  2. Put the words in order: der / Koordination / mit / möchte / Sie / sprechen / zuständigen

    Show answer or example answer

Sie möchte mit der zuständigen Koordination sprechen.

“Möchte … sprechen” combines a modal with an infinitive at the end. “Mit der zuständigen Koordination” is dative after mit and names a role, not a person.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Then I will pass on the name, contact details and time window.

    Show answer or example answer

Dann gebe ich Name, Kontakt und Zeitfenster weiter.

“Gebe … weiter” is the split form of weitergeben. The three objects, Name, Kontakt und Zeitfenster, stand without articles, which keeps the list compact.

Use it today

A relative calls and wants the care coordinator to ring back tomorrow morning. Write the callback note with name, phone number, the person who should call and the time window.
