Use the comparative to show a difference and so ... wie to describe equality.

The idea
A comparative normally adds er and uses als; the adverbial superlative uses am ... sten or esten. Some forms are irregular, such as gut, besser, am besten.
| Form / Muster | Beispiel / Gegensatz |
|---|---|
| klein | kleiner / am kleinsten |
| groß | größer / am größten |
| gut | besser / am besten |
| viel | mehr / am meisten |
Use this construction when one degree changes along with another: more practice and greater confidence, for example. The two parts can increase together or move in opposite directions. Je ... desto: the more, the better in German
Examples
- Dieser Weg ist kürzer als der andere.
- Mein Fahrrad ist so alt wie deins.
- Der Zug fährt schneller als der Bus.
- Im Sommer sind die Tage am längsten.
- Das ist der beste Plan.
- Diese Tasche ist größer als meine.
