The idea

“So ein …” points to a typical kind of thing: so ein Fehler, so ein Zahlendreher. “Das kann passieren” or “Das kann vorkommen” are the standard reassurances. Trotzdem introduces the necessary consequence and, as an adverb, moves the verb before the subject when it comes first. “Bescheid sagen” means to inform. “Derselbe Stand” means the same version or status; derselbe declines like the article plus selbe.

Other ways to say it

“Kein Problem, das kann jedem mal passieren.” – Casual and kind; stresses that anyone could make the mistake.

“Halb so schlimm, wir korrigieren das einfach.” – Casual; downplays the mistake but keeps the fix.

“Das kann vorkommen; bitte prüfen Sie den Eintrag noch einmal.” – Neutral to formal; reassures and asks for a check with Sie.

Examples

  • So ein Zahlendreher kann passieren; wir müssen ihn trotzdem korrigieren.A transposed number can happen; we still need to correct it.
  • Ich prüfe den betroffenen Eintrag gleich.I will check the affected entry immediately.
  • Danke, wichtig ist jetzt die richtige Angabe. Thanks; the correct information matters now.
  • Ich sage auch der Gruppe kurz Bescheid.I will also briefly inform the group.
  • Dann arbeiten alle wieder mit demselben Stand. Then everyone will work with the same information again.
  • Gut, die Korrektur ist inzwischen eingetragen.Good; the correction has now been entered.

Watch out

“Das kann passieren; trotzdem wir müssen ihn korrigieren.” → “Das kann passieren; trotzdem müssen wir ihn korrigieren.”: Trotzdem is an adverb, not a conjunction like aber. When it starts a clause it takes first position, so the verb müssen must follow directly.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: A transposed number can happen; we still need to correct it.

    Show answer or example answer

So ein Zahlendreher kann passieren; wir müssen ihn trotzdem korrigieren.

The first clause reassures with “kann passieren”; after the semicolon trotzdem in the middle field keeps the correction necessary.

  2. Put the words in order: Angabe / Danke / die / ist / jetzt / richtige / wichtig

    Show answer or example answer

Danke, wichtig ist jetzt die richtige Angabe.

Wichtig comes first for emphasis, then ist. “Die richtige Angabe” is the subject; jetzt moves the focus to the solution.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Good; the correction has now been entered.

    Show answer or example answer

Gut, die Korrektur ist inzwischen eingetragen.

Perfect passive state: “ist eingetragen”. Inzwischen means by now; the result closes the topic.
