The idea
Two-way prepositions carry the plot. “Sie stellt alle Stühle in das Rechteck” uses the accusative for movement into a place, while “Hier steht heute die Bühne” describes a fixed location. The key contrast is “Sie stehen vor der Bühne, nicht auf ihr”, both dative. Damit at the start of a sentence introduces a purpose: “Damit wir die Zuschauer nicht wieder auf die Bühne setzen”.
Words from the story
das Band – tape
das Rechteck – rectangle
aufstellen – to set up

Watch out
Readers may think the blue rectangle marks the seating area, as Jule does. The technician corrects this: “Das blaue Band zeigt den Platz für die Bühne.” On the plan, the chairs are the small circles placed in front of that rectangle.

Retell The blue tape on the floor in four German sentences: the opening situation, the difficulty, the key observation and the outcome. Then write one plausible alternative ending and mark it clearly as your own invention. Compare your retelling with the text to check that you did not invent details unintentionally.
