The idea
Kein changes its ending with the noun: “Kein Blatt, kein Foto, keine Karte”. The grandfather explains the mix-up in the perfect tense, “Er hat den Umschlag verschickt und den Brief vergessen”, one haben for two participles. Vorlesen takes a dative person and an accusative thing: “Ich lese ihn dir jetzt vor”, with the pronoun ihn before dir. Aufheben here means to keep, not to lift.

Marta bekommt einen Brief von ihrem Großvater. Auf dem Umschlag steht ihre Adresse. Sie öffnet ihn vorsichtig. Im Umschlag ist nichts. Kein Blatt, kein Foto, keine Karte.
