The idea
German says the ones before the tens and writes the number as one word: “sechsunddreißig” is 36, while “Dreiundsechzig gewinnt einen Korb mit Obst” names 63. Lea finally breaks the number apart, “sechs und dreißig”, to hear it clearly. Vorlesen is separable: “Jemand liest die Gewinnnummern vor”. Recht haben means to be right: “Er hat recht”.

Watch out
Readers who are new to German numbers may share Lea’s mistake and hear their own number in “Dreiundsechzig”. The man points out that her ticket says “sechsunddreißig”, 36, not 63. The ticket is not unused for long: a later call is for her number.
