The idea

Weekday adverbs end in -s and are lower case: montags, dienstags, nachmittags. They describe regular habits, unlike am Dienstag for one day. Ganztägig (all day) contrasts with halbtags or erst nachmittags. Könnte (Konjunktiv II) softens a limit: “Dort könnte ich erst nachmittags beginnen.” Bis zum Ende plus genitive gives the duration. Die Einschränkung is a restriction; dauerhaft means permanent.

Other ways to say it

“An zwei Tagen pro Woche kann ich voll arbeiten.” – Neutral; gives the number of days first.

“Montags, mittwochs und freitags habe ich vormittags Kurs.” – Explains the reason for the limit.

“Ab Februar bin ich die ganze Woche flexibel.” – Positive outlook on future availability.

Examples

  • Wie sieht es an den übrigen Tagen aus? What about the other days?
  • Dort könnte ich erst nachmittags beginnen. On those days I could only start in the afternoon.
  • Ist diese Einschränkung dauerhaft? Is that restriction permanent?

Watch out

“Dienstags und Donnerstags bin ich ganztägig verfügbar.” → “Dienstags und donnerstags bin ich ganztägig verfügbar.”: Weekday adverbs with -s are written in lower case; only the first word of the sentence is capitalised. Learners keep the capital because der Donnerstag is a noun.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: I am available all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

    Show answer or example answer

Dienstags und donnerstags bin ich ganztägig verfügbar.

Two adverbs open the sentence, so “bin” comes second and “ich” third. “Ganztägig verfügbar” means available for the whole working day.

  2. Put the words in order: beginnen / Dort / erst / ich / könnte / nachmittags

    Show answer or example answer

Dort könnte ich erst nachmittags beginnen.

“Dort” refers to the other days. “Könnte” softens the limit, and “erst nachmittags” means not before the afternoon.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Then let us record the period and weekdays separately.

    Show answer or example answer

Dann halten wir Zeitraum und Wochentage getrennt fest.

“Halten … fest” is the split form of festhalten. “Zeitraum und Wochentage getrennt” means recording the period and the days separately.
