Work through the German examples, attempt the exercises before opening the answers, and use the method in your own learning.

The idea

Keep a clear main point, then add an example, a limitation or a counterargument. Summarize longer material in your own words and respond to what another speaker actually says. These exercises practise a small step toward more developed language; one lesson does not establish a CEFR level.

Examples

  • Ich kann meine Meinung mit einem Beispiel begründen.
  • Jetzt berücksichtige ich auch Gegenargumente.
  • Diese Lösung ist praktisch, allerdings nicht für alle geeignet.
  • Obwohl der Preis steigt, bleibt die Nachfrage hoch.
  • Ich fasse einen längeren Text mit eigenen Worten zusammen.
  • Bei einer Diskussion frage ich gezielt nach.

Read-aloud uses a synthetic German voice available on your device. Voice quality and availability vary; it does not assess your pronunciation.

Watch out

Longer words alone do not make a response stronger. Relevant reasoning and clear connections matter.

Try it yourself

  1. Verbinden Sie mit obwohl: Der Preis steigt. Die Nachfrage bleibt hoch.

    Show answer or example answer

Obwohl der Preis steigt, bleibt die Nachfrage hoch.

The obwohl clause ends with steigt; the following main clause begins with bleibt.

  2. Ergänzen Sie einen Einwand: Onlinekurse sind flexibel, allerdings ___.

    fehlt manchmal der persönliche Austausch

The sample objection adds a disadvantage to the previously named flexibility.

  3. Was erweitert eine einfache Meinung: weitere Adjektive oder ein begründetes Gegenargument?

    Show answer or example answer

    Ein begründetes Gegenargument.

A justified counterargument develops the discussion rather than merely changing adjectives.
