The idea

Zuständig für plus accusative names responsibility: für die Termine zuständig. The noun is die Zuständigkeit. Die Vertretung is the person covering for someone, often listed in the roster (Dienstplan). Weiterleiten (to forward) is separable: “ich leite … weiter”. Dorthin (to there) indicates direction to a place or role already mentioned. “Eine Anfrage an jemanden richten” uses an with the accusative.

Other ways to say it

“Wer kümmert sich heute um die Termine?” – Everyday and friendly; sich kümmern um means to take care of.

“An wen kann ich mich wegen eines Termins wenden?” – Polite and neutral; asks for the right contact.

“Wer vertritt heute die Koordination?” – Asks specifically for the stand-in.

Watch out

“Wer ist heute zuständig von den Terminabsprachen?” → “Wer ist heute für die Terminabsprachen zuständig?”: Zuständig always takes für plus accusative, and the phrase usually comes before the adjective. English “in charge of” leads learners to use von.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: Who is responsible for appointment arrangements today?

    Show answer or example answer

Wer ist heute für die Terminabsprachen zuständig?

“Wer” is the subject, “ist” follows. The phrase “für die Terminabsprachen” comes before “zuständig”, which is the usual order in German.

  2. Put the words in order: an / Anfrage / die / falsche / Ich / keine / möchte / Person / richten

    Show answer or example answer

Ich möchte keine Anfrage an die falsche Person richten.

“Ich möchte keine Anfrage … richten” negates the noun with keine. “An die falsche Person” is accusative after an in the phrase eine Anfrage an jemanden richten.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Then I will forward only the scheduling question there.

    Show answer or example answer

Dann leite ich nur die Terminfrage dorthin weiter.

Weiterleiten splits: “leite … weiter”. “Nur die Terminfrage” limits what is forwarded, and “dorthin” points to the stand-in just found.

Use it today

A relative wants to move a visit, and the usual coordinator is on leave. Ask a colleague who is covering appointments today and where you can check it.
