The idea
Bitten um plus accusative: um eine kleinere Portion bitten; the perfect is hat … gebeten. Do not confuse it with fragen nach (to ask for information). Kleiner becomes kleinere before a feminine noun after eine. “Ein geäußerter Wunsch” is a wish the person expressed, as opposed to one others assume. In care documentation, many teams separate what a person said from any interpretation, so reported speech stays close to the original.
Other ways to say it
“Sie möchte lieber eine kleinere Portion.” – Everyday spoken version of the same request.
“Wunsch der Bewohnerin: kleinere Portion.” – Compact note style for a handover sheet.
“Sie hat gesagt, dass ihr die Portion zu groß ist.” – Reports the statement itself with a dass-clause.
Examples
- Die Person hat um eine kleinere Portion gebeten. The person asked for a smaller portion.
- Hat sie einen weiteren Wunsch genannt?Did they state any other preference?
- Nein, ich gebe nur diese Bitte weiter. No, I am only passing on that request.
- Dann notieren wir sie als geäußerten Wunsch. Then let us note it as a stated preference.
- Weitere Fragen klären wir mit der zuständigen Fachperson. We will clarify further questions with the responsible professional.
- Gut, wir ergänzen keine eigene Deutung.Good; we will not add our own interpretation.

Watch out
“Die Person hat für eine kleinere Portion gefragt.” → “Die Person hat um eine kleinere Portion gebeten.”: English “ask for” covers both requests and questions. German uses bitten um for a request and fragen nach for information, so a wish for a smaller portion needs bitten um.
Try it yourself
Translate into German: The person asked for a smaller portion.
Show answer or example answer
Die Person hat um eine kleinere Portion gebeten.
The perfect “hat … gebeten” frames the request. “Um eine kleinere Portion” is accusative after um, and the comparative kleinere takes -e after eine.
Put the words in order: Bitte / diese / gebe / ich / Nein / nur / weiter
Show answer or example answer
Nein, ich gebe nur diese Bitte weiter.
“Nein” answers the question, then the main clause follows. Weitergeben splits into “gebe … weiter”, and “nur diese Bitte” limits the message to exactly what was said.
Write this sentence in German: Good; we will not add our own interpretation.

Gut, wir ergänzen keine eigene Deutung.
“Keine eigene Deutung” negates the noun with keine. Ergänzen means to add; the sentence promises that nothing beyond the request will be added.
