Link an opinion to a reason, example and limitation while keeping the word order clear. Notice this example: „Ich lerne gern online, weil ich flexibel bleiben möchte.“

The idea

Weil sends the finite verb to the end of its clause. When deshalb or trotzdem opens a main clause, the finite verb comes directly after it, before the subject.

Watch out

A connector is not just decoration: choose a reason, result or contrast that actually fits the ideas.

Try it yourself

  1. Begründung: Ich übe, ___ ich sicherer sprechen möchte. (weil / denn)

    Show answer or example answer

    weil

„weil“ — Weil introduces a subordinate clause with the finite verb at the end.

  2. Ordne nach „deshalb“: Deshalb / ich / übe / täglich.

    Show answer or example answer

    Deshalb übe ich täglich.

„Deshalb übe ich täglich.“ — The opening phrase takes position one; the finite verb must come next.

  3. Zusätzlicher Punkt: ___ lese ich kurze Texte. (Außerdem / Obwohl)

    Show answer or example answer

    Außerdem

„Außerdem“ — Außerdem adds another point rather than introducing a contrast clause.
