The idea

“Ich bin hier richtig” is fixed: richtig, not korrekt, and the verb is sein. Add für plus accusative to name the purpose: für die Abholung, für den Antrag. “Dabeihaben” is separable and means to have something on you: “Ich habe den Brief dabei.” Many offices call people by a queue number (Wartenummer) shown on a screen; if your matter changes, staff may ask you to draw a new one.

Other ways to say it

“Wo kann ich meinen Ausweis abholen?” – Names the document directly; neutral and clear.

“Entschuldigung, ist das hier die Schlange für Abholungen?” – Polite check with someone else waiting in line.

  • Welches Dokument möchten Sie abholen?Which document would you like to collect?
  • Ich habe eine Abholbenachrichtigung dabei.I have a collection notification with me.
  • Dann gehen Sie bitte zu Schalter fünf.Then please go to counter five.

Watch out

“Bin ich hier korrekt für die Abholung?” → “Bin ich für die Abholung hier richtig?”: “Hier richtig sein” is the fixed expression; korrekt describes correctness of facts or behaviour, not being in the right place. Placing “hier richtig” at the end also sounds more natural.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: Am I in the right place for collection?

    Show answer or example answer

Bin ich für die Abholung hier richtig?

The verb “Bin” opens the yes/no question; “für die Abholung” names the purpose before “hier richtig”, which closes the sentence.

  2. Put the words in order: Abholbenachrichtigung / dabei / eine / habe / Ich

    Show answer or example answer

    Ich habe eine Abholbenachrichtigung dabei.

“Ich habe … dabei” is the separable verb dabeihaben; the long compound “Abholbenachrichtigung” sits between its two parts as the object.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Please ask the colleague at the entrance.

    Show answer or example answer

Fragen Sie bitte die Kollegin am Eingang.

A Sie-imperative with “bitte” in the middle; “am Eingang” locates the colleague with an + dem.
