The idea

When a subordinate clause such as “Wenn du möchtest” comes first, it fills position one, so the main clause starts with the verb: kann ich. Begleiten takes the accusative: dich begleiten. “Das entscheidest du selbst” puts das first for emphasis. Sich melden means to get in touch; einfach (simply) makes the invitation light. “Ohne Druck” uses ohne without an article.

Other ways to say it

“Sag Bescheid, falls du Unterstützung brauchst.” – Casual and open; falls means in case.

“Ich bin da, wenn du jemanden zum Reden brauchst.” – Warm offer of emotional support among close friends.

Examples

Watch out

“Wenn du möchtest, ich kann dich begleiten.” → “Wenn du möchtest, kann ich dich begleiten.”: The whole wenn-clause counts as the first position of the sentence, so the verb kann comes directly after the comma, before the subject ich.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: If you like, I can accompany you.

    Show answer or example answer

Wenn du möchtest, kann ich dich begleiten.

The wenn-clause ends with “möchtest”; then the main clause begins with “kann”, and “dich” is the accusative object of begleiten.

  2. Put the words in order: das / du / entscheidest / Natürlich / selbst

    Show answer or example answer

    Natürlich, das entscheidest du selbst.

“Natürlich” agrees at once; “das” refers to the decision and stands first, so “entscheidest” comes before “du”.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Thank you for the offer without pressure.

    Show answer or example answer

Danke für das Angebot ohne Druck.

“Danke für” plus accusative “das Angebot”; “ohne Druck” describes the kind of offer and needs no article.
