The idea
Der Gang is a course: Vorspeise, Hauptgang, Dessert or Nachspeise. “Beendet sein” describes a finished state. “Mit etwas warten” means to hold off on something: “mit dem Dessert warten”. In kitchens colleagues often use du and ihr: “ich gebe euch ein Zeichen”. Der Vorlauf is the preparation time needed before something can start. “Den Zeitpunkt abstimmen” means to agree on the moment.
Other ways to say it
“Tisch sechs braucht noch etwas, Dessert bitte noch nicht.” – Informal kitchen call; short and clear.
“Ich sag Bescheid, wenn ihr anfangen könnt.” – Informal; Bescheid sagen means to let someone know.
“Den Nachtisch für Tisch sechs bitte erst auf Abruf.” – Neutral trade jargon: auf Abruf means only when called.
Examples
- An Tisch sechs ist der Hauptgang noch nicht beendet.Table six has not yet finished the main course.
- Sollen wir mit dem Dessert warten?Should we wait with dessert?
- Ja, ich gebe euch ein Zeichen zum Start.Yes, I will give you a signal to start.
- Wie viel Vorlauf braucht die Küche? How much preparation time does the kitchen need?
- Das frage ich kurz bei der zuständigen Person.I will briefly ask the person responsible.
- Dann stimmen wir den Zeitpunkt gemeinsam ab.Then we will agree on the timing together.

Watch out
“Sollen wir für das Dessert warten?” → “Sollen wir mit dem Dessert warten?”: English “wait for” suggests für, but “warten auf” means waiting for something to arrive. Holding back your own action is “mit etwas warten”, with the dative.

An Tisch sechs ist der Hauptgang noch nicht beendet.
“An Tisch sechs” opens the sentence; ist comes second, the subject der Hauptgang third, and “noch nicht beendet” describes the unfinished state.

Show answer or example answer
Ja, ich gebe euch ein Zeichen zum Start.
Geben takes euch (dative plural, informal) and ein Zeichen (accusative). “Zum Start” is zu dem plus Start and gives the purpose.
Write this sentence in German: Then we will agree on the timing together.

Dann stimmen wir den Zeitpunkt gemeinsam ab.
Abstimmen is separable: stimmen second, ab at the end. Den Zeitpunkt is masculine accusative, and gemeinsam stresses joint planning.
