The idea

Sein plus participle describes a state: ist gereinigt, ist freigegeben. Aber noch nicht contrasts the two stages. Bezugsfertig means ready for occupancy; the related noun is die Freigabe. Many hotels have a check by a supervisor before a room counts as released, but procedures vary. Erst nach plus dative means not before: “erst nach Bestätigung”. Zimmer with a number has no article.

Other ways to say it

“Die Vierzehn ist sauber, aber noch nicht abgenommen.” – Informal staff talk; abnehmen means to inspect and approve.

“Zimmer vierzehn ist noch nicht bezugsfertig.” – Neutral; suitable when talking to reception.

“Für Zimmer vierzehn fehlt nur noch die Kontrolle.” – Neutral; names the single missing step.

  • Dann markieren wir den Status entsprechend. Then let us mark the status accordingly.

Watch out

“Ich melde die Freigabe nur nach Bestätigung.” → “Ich melde die Freigabe erst nach Bestätigung.”: For “not before a certain point”, German uses erst. Nur nach Bestätigung would stress the condition rather than the timing and sounds unnatural here.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: Room fourteen is cleaned but not yet released.

    Show answer or example answer

Zimmer vierzehn ist gereinigt, aber noch nicht freigegeben.

Two states joined by aber: gereinigt (cleaned) and nicht freigegeben (not released). Zimmer vierzehn has no article because the number identifies it.

  2. Put the words in order: Die / ist / Kontrolle / noch / offen / vorgesehene

    Show answer or example answer

Die vorgesehene Kontrolle ist noch offen.

Die vorgesehene Kontrolle is the planned check; vorgesehen is a participle adjective. Noch offen means still to be done.

  3. Write this sentence in German: I will report release only after confirmation.

    Show answer or example answer

Ich melde die Freigabe erst nach Bestätigung.
