The idea

Periods are given with von … bis: vom ersten bis zum letzten Tag (vom = von dem, zum = zu dem). Ordinal dates take adjective endings: am ersten, bis zum letzten. “Sind … einzubeziehen?” is sein + zu-infinitive, meaning “must they be included?”. Einbeziehen (to include) is separable, so zu goes inside: einzubeziehen. Der Zeitraum is the period, die Auswahl the selection, die Anforderung the requirement.

Other ways to say it

“Welcher Zeitraum soll in den Export?” – Short spoken question with movement in; common in chat.

“Gehören abgeschlossene Vorgänge mit dazu?” – Casual check on which records count.

“Bitte bestätigen Sie Zeitraum und Filter für den Export.” – Formal request in an email.

Examples

  • Soll der Export nur den letzten Monat enthalten?Should the export include only the last month?
  • Gemeint ist der Zeitraum vom ersten bis zum letzten Tag.The intended period is from the first to the last day.
  • Sind abgeschlossene Vorgänge ebenfalls einzubeziehen?Should closed cases also be included?
  • Das steht in der Anforderung noch nicht eindeutig. That is not yet clear in the requirement.
  • Dann frage ich vor dem Export danach. Then I will ask before exporting.
  • So stimmen Zeitraum und Auswahl mit der Aufgabe überein. That way the period and selection match the task.

Watch out

“Sind abgeschlossene Vorgänge ebenfalls zu einbeziehen?” → “Sind abgeschlossene Vorgänge ebenfalls einzubeziehen?”: With separable verbs, zu goes between prefix and stem and is written as one word: einzubeziehen, anzurufen, mitzunehmen. Learners put zu in front as with ordinary verbs.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: Should the export include only the last month?

    Show answer or example answer

Soll der Export nur den letzten Monat enthalten?

“Soll” opens the question and asks what the requester wants; “enthalten” closes it. “Nur den letzten Monat” is accusative with -en.

  2. Put the words in order: abgeschlossene / ebenfalls / einzubeziehen / Sind / Vorgänge

    Show answer or example answer

    Sind abgeschlossene Vorgänge ebenfalls einzubeziehen?

“Sind … einzubeziehen” is sein + zu-infinitive, expressing what must be done. “Abgeschlossene Vorgänge” is the plural subject without article.

  3. Write this sentence in German: That way the period and selection match the task.

So stimmen Zeitraum und Auswahl mit der Aufgabe überein.

“Stimmen … überein” is the split form of übereinstimmen, followed by mit plus dative: mit der Aufgabe. The plural subject is Zeitraum und Auswahl.
