The idea

Vorherig (previous) is an adjective: den vorherigen Schritt. Zu plus dative attaches information to something: zum Screenshot, zur Meldung. “Die zuletzt gedrückte Schaltfläche” uses a participle with zuletzt as an adjective. The past perfect “erwartet hatten” refers to an expectation before the error. UI words: die Schaltfläche (button), die Ausgabe (output), der Meldungstext. Before sharing a screenshot, many companies ask staff to hide personal data.

Other ways to say it

“Was haben Sie direkt davor gemacht?” – Plain spoken question; very common on the phone.

“Welches Ergebnis hatten Sie erwartet?” – Asks only for the expected output.

“Bitte schwärzen Sie Namen und Kundennummern im Screenshot.” – Formal request to hide personal data.

Watch out

“Könnten Sie zum Screenshot den vorherige Schritt nennen?” → “Könnten Sie zum Screenshot den vorherigen Schritt nennen?”: Schritt is masculine and the object of nennen, so after den the adjective needs -en. Learners often stop at -e, the ending used after der in the nominative.
