The idea

Der Name is an n-noun: it takes -n in the dative and accusative and -ns in the genitive (meinem Namen, des Namens). “In meinem Namen fehlt ein Buchstabe” puts the place first and the subject after the verb. Auffallen takes the dative of the person: “Wo ist Ihnen das aufgefallen?” and forms the perfect with sein. Erfragen is a formal verb meaning to ask in order to find something out.

Other ways to say it

“Mein Name ist auf der Fahrkarte falsch geschrieben.” – Simple neutral statement of the problem.

“Kann man die Schreibweise meines Namens noch ändern?” – Polite question about options; note the genitive Namens.

Watch out

“In meinem Name fehlt ein Buchstabe.” → “In meinem Namen fehlt ein Buchstabe.”: Name belongs to a small group of masculine nouns that add -n outside the nominative. After in with the dative it must be meinem Namen.

    Show answer or example answer

In meinem Namen fehlt ein Buchstabe.

“In meinem Namen” comes first for focus, the verb “fehlt” is second, and “ein Buchstabe” is the subject placed after it.

  2. Put the words in order: Auf / Buchungsbestätigung / der / die / falsche / Schreibweise / steht

    Show answer or example answer

Auf der Buchungsbestätigung steht die falsche Schreibweise.

“Auf der Buchungsbestätigung” is dative because it says where; stehen is used for written text, and die Schreibweise means the spelling.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Then state both spellings clearly.
