The idea

Könnte (Konjunktiv II) plus jemand addresses whoever is free. “Den Regalpreis dieses Artikels” uses the genitive for possession. Der Gang is an aisle. Neben plus dative gives position: neben den Vorratsdosen (dative plural -n). Durchlesen here means to read out in full. Zurückgeben an plus accusative means to pass back to: an die Kasse.

Other ways to say it

“Preisprüfung bitte an Kasse drei.” – Neutral; typical announcement over the shop speaker.

“Kannst du mal schauen, was am Regal steht?” – Informal; to a colleague nearby.

“Die Kundin hat am Regal einen anderen Preis gesehen.” – Neutral; explains why the check is needed.

Watch out

“Gang vier, rechts neben die Vorratsdosen.” → “Gang vier, rechts neben den Vorratsdosen.”: Neben is a two-way preposition. For position (where?) it takes the dative, so the plural becomes den Vorratsdosen. The accusative would describe movement to a place.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: Could someone check this item’s shelf price?

    Show answer or example answer

Könnte jemand den Regalpreis dieses Artikels prüfen?

Könnte jemand opens a polite open request; den Regalpreis is accusative, and dieses Artikels is masculine genitive with -s.

  2. Put the words in order: den / Gang / neben / rechts / vier / Vorratsdosen

    Show answer or example answer

Gang vier, rechts neben den Vorratsdosen.

Answer without a verb: Gang vier names the aisle, rechts the side, and neben plus dative plural the exact spot.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Then I will report the price I find back to the till.

    Show answer or example answer

Dann gebe ich den gefundenen Preis an die Kasse zurück.

Zurückgeben splits: gebe second, zurück at the end. Den gefundenen Preis is the object, and an die Kasse the destination.

Use it today

A customer says the cereal was 2.49 on the shelf, but the till shows 2.99. Write your request for a price check, including the aisle and position.
