The idea

“Jemandem zustimmen” takes a dative person and is separable: “Ich stimme dir zu.” The topic follows bei + dative or “in + dative” (in diesem Punkt). “Bedenken haben” (to have reservations) uses the plural noun die Bedenken. Two parallel sentences starting with bei make the contrast clear. “Aus meiner Sicht” marks a personal view.

Other ways to say it

“Teilweise sehe ich das genauso.” – Neutral; signals agreement with limits before you name them.

“Da gebe ich dir recht, aber bei der Uhrzeit nicht.” – Casual and direct; puts agreement and objection in one sentence.

“Im Großen und Ganzen stimme ich Ihnen zu, nur die Uhrzeit sehe ich anders.” – Formal and diplomatic; suits meetings.

Examples

  • Und wie siehst du den vorgeschlagenen Beginn? And how do you see the proposed start time?
  • Bei der Uhrzeit habe ich noch Bedenken.I still have reservations about the time.
  • Dann trennen wir die beiden Entscheidungen. Then let us separate the two decisions.

Watch out

“Bei der Raumwahl stimme ich dich zu.” → “Bei der Raumwahl stimme ich dir zu.”: Zustimmen is one of the verbs with a dative object, like helfen and danken. Learners often use the accusative dich because “agree with you” has a direct object feel.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: I agree with you on the choice of room.

    Show answer or example answer

Bei der Raumwahl stimme ich dir zu.

“Bei der Raumwahl” opens the sentence, so “stimme ich” follows. “Dir” is dative, and the prefix “zu” goes to the end.

  2. Put the words in order: Bedenken / Bei / der / habe / ich / noch / Uhrzeit

    Show answer or example answer

Bei der Uhrzeit habe ich noch Bedenken.

“Bei der Uhrzeit” mirrors the first sentence. “Bedenken” is plural without an article here; “noch” means you still have them for now.

  3. Write this sentence in German: We will continue discussing the start afterwards.

    Show answer or example answer

Über den Beginn sprechen wir anschließend weiter.

“Über den Beginn” is accusative after über and comes first, so “sprechen wir” follows. “Anschließend” means afterwards, and “weiter” means continue.
