The idea
Zu always takes the dative, so the possessive ends in -er for a feminine noun (deiner neuen Aufgabe) and -em for masculine or neuter (deinem neuen Posten). Herzlichen is accusative because the full phrase is “Ich wünsche dir herzlichen Glückwunsch”. The second step is a wish with wünschen + dative person + accusative thing: “Ich wünsche dir viel Erfolg”. The newcomer typically answers with “sich freuen auf” for the future and “sich freuen über” for something present.
Other ways to say it
“Glückwunsch zum neuen Posten!” – Short and casual; good for a quick chat message.
“Ich gratuliere Ihnen herzlich zu Ihrer neuen Position.” – Formal; suits emails to managers, clients or business contacts.
“Toll, dass du das jetzt machst!” – Very casual and enthusiastic; between friends.

Watch out
“Herzlichen Glückwunsch für deine neue Aufgabe.” → “Herzlichen Glückwunsch zu deiner neuen Aufgabe.”: English “congratulations on/for” leads learners to für. German uses zu with the dative, so the possessive changes from deine to deiner.

Translate into German: Congratulations on your new role in the club.
Show answer or example answer
Herzlichen Glückwunsch zu deiner neuen Aufgabe im Verein.
Zu takes the dative, so feminine Aufgabe gets deiner neuen. “Im Verein” is short for in dem Verein and places the role.
Put the words in order: den / dir / Erfolg / Für / ich / Start / viel / wünsche
Show answer or example answer
Für den Start wünsche ich dir viel Erfolg.
“Für den Start” opens the sentence, so wünsche comes second and ich third. Dir is the dative person, viel Erfolg the accusative wish.
Write this sentence in German: I am especially pleased about that.
Show answer or example answer
Darüber freue ich mich besonders.
Darüber replaces “über diesen Wunsch”; sich freuen über is used for something already present. Besonders strengthens the thanks.
