The idea

“Jemandem zur Verfügung stehen” (to be available to someone) uses stehen and a dative person; “zur Verfügung stellen” means to make available. “Verfügbar sein” is the shorter adjective version. “Vorerst” and “bis auf Weiteres” mark a temporary state. Avoid inventing an end date: “noch keine bestätigte Information” is the honest wording.

Other ways to say it

“Den kleinen Raum können wir im Moment nicht nutzen.” – Neutral and plain; good in speech.

“Der kleine Raum ist bis auf Weiteres gesperrt.” – Formal; gesperrt suggests it is officially closed.

“Der kleine Raum fällt erst mal weg.” – Casual; “wegfallen” means to drop out of the options.

Examples

  • Der kleine Raum steht uns vorerst nicht zur Verfügung. The small room is unavailable to us for the time being.
  • Gibt es schon einen festen Endtermin dafür?Is there already a fixed end date for that?
  • Dazu haben wir noch keine bestätigte Information. We do not yet have confirmed information about that.
  • Dann planen wir zunächst mit einem anderen Raum. Then let us plan with another room initially.
  • Sobald sich der Stand ändert, melde ich mich.As soon as the situation changes, I will get in touch.
  • Gut, wir behandeln die Lösung bis dahin als vorläufig.Good; let us treat the solution as provisional until then.

Watch out

“Der kleine Raum ist uns vorerst nicht zur Verfügung.” → “Der kleine Raum steht uns vorerst nicht zur Verfügung.”: Learners use sein because English says “is available”. The fixed phrase needs stehen: “zur Verfügung stehen”. With sein, use the adjective instead: “ist nicht verfügbar”.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: The small room is unavailable to us for the time being.

    Show answer or example answer

Der kleine Raum steht uns vorerst nicht zur Verfügung.

“Steht” is the verb, “uns” the dative person, and “zur Verfügung” closes the clause like a particle. “Vorerst nicht” sits in between.

  2. Put the words in order: bestätigte / Dazu / haben / Information / keine / noch / wir

    Show answer or example answer

Dazu haben wir noch keine bestätigte Information.

“Dazu” means about that and opens the sentence, so “haben wir” follows. “Keine bestätigte Information” is accusative feminine with the strong ending -e.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Good; let us treat the solution as provisional until then.

    Show answer or example answer

Gut, wir behandeln die Lösung bis dahin als vorläufig.

“Behandeln als” means to treat as; “die Lösung” is accusative and “vorläufig” has no ending after als. “Bis dahin” means until then.
