The idea
Fahrt is a trip by vehicle; Reise is a journey in general. “Nach Hause” means towards home, “zu Hause” means at home: “Wir schreiben, sobald wir zu Hause sind.” Euch addresses several people you each call du; the imperative for ihr ends in -t: kommt, meldet. “Gut ankommen” is the usual wish for arriving safely. Sobald introduces a clause with the verb at the end.
Other ways to say it
“Kommt gut heim!” – Casual; heim is common especially in southern Germany, but understood everywhere.
“Gute Reise und eine sichere Ankunft!” – Neutral; suits longer journeys or flights.
“Ich wünsche Ihnen eine angenehme Heimreise.” – Formal; for business guests or people you address with Sie.
Examples
- Ich wünsche euch eine gute Fahrt nach Hause.I wish you a good journey home.
- Danke, wir fahren direkt nach dem Essen los. Thanks; we will leave straight after eating.
- Kommt gut an und meldet euch bei Gelegenheit.Have a good journey and get in touch when you can.
- Wir schreiben, sobald wir zu Hause sind.We will write once we are home.
- Für den langen Weg wünsche ich euch wenig Verzögerung.I hope there are few delays on the long journey.
- Danke, wir haben genügend Zeit eingeplant. Thanks; we have allowed enough time.

Watch out
“Wir schreiben, sobald wir nach Hause sind.” → “Wir schreiben, sobald wir zu Hause sind.”: Nach Hause shows direction and goes with movement verbs like fahren. With sein, which describes location, German needs zu Hause.
Try it yourself
Translate into German: I wish you a good journey home.
Show answer or example answer
Ich wünsche euch eine gute Fahrt nach Hause.
Euch is the dative plural for several people on du terms. Fahrt is feminine, so eine gute; “nach Hause” gives the direction.
Put the words in order: an / bei / euch / Gelegenheit / gut / Kommt / meldet / und
Show answer or example answer
Kommt gut an und meldet euch bei Gelegenheit.
Two ihr-imperatives ending in -t are joined by und. “Bei Gelegenheit” makes the request relaxed: whenever it suits you.
Write this sentence in German: Thanks; we have allowed enough time.
Show answer or example answer
Danke, wir haben genügend Zeit eingeplant.
“Zeit einplanen” means to allow time; einplanen is separable, but in the perfect it becomes eingeplant. Genügend means enough.
