The idea
Jana guesses with vielleicht, which sits in first position and pushes the verb second: “Vielleicht muss sie drei Dinge kaufen”. Wissen with nicht mehr means she has forgotten: “Jana weiß nicht mehr, was sie bedeuten”, an indirect question with the verb last. The son negates a noun with kein: “Das sind keine Termine”.

Watch out
Readers may take Jana’s guesses as facts, but “Vielleicht muss sie drei Dinge kaufen” and the guests are only ideas. Her son explains: “Ich zähle die Tage ohne kaputtes Spielzeug.” The lines are his own record, not appointments.

Retell Three red lines on the calendar in four German sentences: the opening situation, the difficulty, the key observation and the outcome. Then write one plausible alternative ending and mark it clearly as your own invention. Compare your retelling with the text to check that you did not invent details unintentionally.
