The idea
Guesses about the fruit are reported in Konjunktiv I: “die Firma bezahle sie”. Mara’s explanation uses a dass-clause with the past perfect: “dass sie das Obst in den letzten Wochen aus ihrem Garten mitgebracht hatte”. The phrase “einen Anspruch gemacht, ohne nachzufragen” combines ohne with zu-infinitive. The card “Wer mag, bringt etwas mit. Nichts ist Pflicht.” shows a friendly, informal way to invite contributions.
Words from the story

Watch out
Because the bowl appears every Monday, readers may treat it as a service like the colleague does. The text corrects this: “Es hatte nie eine feste Lieferung gegeben.” Mara brought fruit from her own garden until the harvest ended. The guesses about the company and the shop are only guesses.
