The idea

Nach is used with towns and countries without an article: nach Neustadt. Teil is masculine (der vordere Teil), and Zugteil follows it. “Wird … abgetrennt” is the present passive with werden + participle, typical for announcements because the action matters, not the person. “Weiterfahren” is separable: “Welcher Teil fährt dann weiter?”. Tatsächlich (actually, indeed) confirms a surprise.

Other ways to say it

“Wird der Zug unterwegs geteilt?” – Neutral first question when you suspect a split service.

“In welchem Teil muss ich sitzen, um nach Neustadt zu kommen?” – Clear and practical; the um … zu clause gives the purpose.

Examples

  • Fährt dieser Zugteil nach Neustadt?Does this part of the train go to Neustadt?
  • Der vordere Teil wird später abgetrennt. The front part will be detached later.
  • Welcher Teil fährt dann weiter?Which part continues then?
  • Bitte prüfen Sie das Ziel am Wagen. Please check the destination on the carriage.
  • Hier steht tatsächlich ein anderes Ziel.A different destination is actually shown here.
  • Dann fragen Sie vor der Abfahrt nach. Then ask before departure.

Watch out

“Fährt dieser Zugteil zu Neustadt?” → “Fährt dieser Zugteil nach Neustadt?”: For towns, cities and most countries without an article German uses nach. Zu is for people, buildings and places with an article, such as zum Bahnhof.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: Does this part of the train go to Neustadt?

    Show answer or example answer

    Fährt dieser Zugteil nach Neustadt?

Yes/no question with the verb first; “dieser Zugteil” is masculine nominative, and “nach Neustadt” gives the destination town.

  2. Put the words in order: dann / fährt / Teil / weiter / Welcher

    Show answer or example answer

    Welcher Teil fährt dann weiter?

“Welcher Teil” asks for one of several options; the separable verb weiterfahren splits so “weiter” comes at the end.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Then ask before departure.

    Show answer or example answer

Dann fragen Sie vor der Abfahrt nach.

“Fragen Sie … nach” is the imperative of nachfragen with the prefix at the end; “vor der Abfahrt” is dative after vor in a time phrase.
