The idea
Interviews mix tenses: the perfect for completed tasks (habe … geführt, dokumentiert) and the simple past for narration (prüfte, meldete, traf). “Bei meinem letzten Projekt” uses bei plus dative for context. “Eine Entscheidung treffen” is the fixed phrase for making a decision; traf is its simple past. “Den Überblick behalten” means to keep track. Interviewers in Germany often ask follow-up questions about personal responsibility, so name it precisely.
Other ways to say it
“Ich war für die Materialliste zuständig.” – Neutral; names responsibility with zuständig für.
“Meine Aufgabe war es, Ein- und Ausgänge zu erfassen.” – Formal; uses an infinitive clause with zu.
“Nachbestellungen habe ich vorbereitet, aber nicht selbst entschieden.” – Draws the boundary of your role in one sentence.
Examples
- Bei meinem letzten Projekt habe ich die Materialliste geführt. In my last project, I maintained the materials list.
- Wie haben Sie den Überblick behalten? How did you keep track?
- Ich habe Eingänge und Ausgaben getrennt dokumentiert.I documented incoming and outgoing items separately.
- Was war dabei Ihre eigene Verantwortung? What was your own responsibility in that?
- Ich prüfte die Einträge und meldete Unstimmigkeiten.I checked the entries and reported discrepancies.
- Die Entscheidung über Nachbestellungen traf die Projektleitung. The project manager decided on reorders.

Watch out
“Die Projektleitung machte die Entscheidung über Nachbestellungen.” → “Die Projektleitung traf die Entscheidung über Nachbestellungen.”: German says eine Entscheidung treffen, not machen. English “make a decision” leads learners to machen, which sounds wrong to German ears.
Try it yourself
Translate into German: In my last project, I maintained the materials list.
Show answer or example answer
Bei meinem letzten Projekt habe ich die Materialliste geführt.
“Bei meinem letzten Projekt” is dative after bei and opens the sentence, so “habe” is second. “Die Materialliste geführt” uses führen in its sense of keeping records.
Put the words in order: Ausgaben / dokumentiert / Eingänge / getrennt / habe / Ich / und
Show answer or example answer
Ich habe Eingänge und Ausgaben getrennt dokumentiert.
Perfect tense with two objects joined by und: “Eingänge und Ausgaben”. “Getrennt” describes how they were documented, separately.
Write this sentence in German: The project manager decided on reorders.
Show answer or example answer
Die Entscheidung über Nachbestellungen traf die Projektleitung.
The object “Die Entscheidung über Nachbestellungen” comes first, so “traf” follows and the subject “die Projektleitung” comes last. Über takes the accusative.
