The idea

Separate a found object, an adjective evaluation and a belief about a proposition. Learn the German frame: den Schlüssel finden, etwas praktisch finden, glauben, dass ... .

One contrast, not a prediction about every learner

Portuguese achar can describe locating something or expressing an opinion. German uses finden for locating and many evaluations, while glauben or meinen can express a belief or view; the intended meaning decides the construction.

Individual experience, dialect and other languages you know can change which comparisons help. Use the contrast to notice a German choice; do not treat it as a label for a whole group of people.

Repair the transfer

  • Ich finde, dass der Schlüssel unter dem Sofa liegt. bedeutet immer, dass ich ihn gefunden habe. Ich glaube, dass der Schlüssel unter dem Sofa liegt. ist eine Vermutung.
