One contrast, not a prediction about every learner
Brazilian você takes third-person verb forms while commonly addressing someone directly. German du and Sie are social address choices with different verb forms; third-person-looking Portuguese morphology alone does not choose formal Sie.
Individual experience, dialect and other languages you know can change which comparisons help. Use the contrast to notice a German choice; do not treat it as a label for a whole group of people.
