The idea

“Zu etwas liegt (noch) keine Entscheidung vor” is typical office German; zu takes the dative. Keine negates the noun. “Stellung nehmen zu” means to give an official opinion. Inzwischen means meanwhile. The relative clause in “Nur die Schritte, die von der Wahl unabhängig sind” defines which steps are safe. “Etwas als offen kennzeichnen” means to label it as open.

Other ways to say it

“Die Entscheidung steht noch aus.” – Neutral; ausstehen means still pending.

“Darüber ist noch nicht entschieden.” – Neutral to formal; impersonal passive without a subject.

“Da ist noch nichts entschieden.” – Informal spoken German; common in quick answers.

Watch out

“Zu dieser Variante liegt noch nicht eine Entscheidung vor.” → “Zu dieser Variante liegt noch keine Entscheidung vor.”: A noun with an indefinite article is negated with kein, not nicht ein. Learners copy English “not a decision”, but German fuses the two words into keine.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: No decision has been made on this option yet.

    Show answer or example answer

Zu dieser Variante liegt noch keine Entscheidung vor.

“Zu dieser Variante” (dative) opens the sentence; liegt is second, keine Entscheidung is the subject, and the prefix vor closes the clause.

  2. Put the words in order: Abteilung / die / Die / Fragen / offenen / prüft / verantwortliche

    Show answer or example answer

Die verantwortliche Abteilung prüft die offenen Fragen.

Simple present for an ongoing process. Die verantwortliche Abteilung is the subject, die offenen Fragen the accusative plural object.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Then let us mark the remaining points as open.

Dann kennzeichnen wir die übrigen Punkte als offen.

“Etwas als offen kennzeichnen” labels a status. Die übrigen Punkte are the remaining items, as opposed to the steps already safe to prepare.
