The idea

Sehen with ihr is seht; in a formal call ask “Sehen Sie …?”. Bei uns means on our side, on our screens. Adjectives in -bar express possibility: sichtbar (visible), lesbar (legible). The perfect “habe … ausgewählt” reports what just happened; auswählen is separable, so the participle is ausgewählt. Teilen is the usual verb for screen sharing: “den Bildschirm teilen”, “ein Fenster teilen”.

Other ways to say it

“Könnt ihr meinen Bildschirm sehen?” – Informal and simple; the most common check.

“Ist die Präsentation jetzt bei Ihnen zu sehen?” – Formal with Sie; for clients or external partners.

“Sagt Bescheid, wenn ihr die Tabelle seht.” – Informal; asks for a signal instead of a question.

Examples

  • Seht ihr die Tabelle oder nur meinen Desktop? Can you see the spreadsheet or just my desktop?
  • Bei uns ist nur das Hintergrundbild sichtbar. We can only see the background image.
  • Dann habe ich das falsche Fenster ausgewählt. Then I selected the wrong window.
  • Wähle bitte die Datei mit dem Monatsbericht. Please select the file with the monthly report.
  • Jetzt teile ich nur dieses eine Fenster. Now I am sharing only this one window.
  • Ja, die Spalten sind jetzt gut lesbar.Yes, the columns are clearly legible now.

Watch out

“Dann habe ich das falsche Fenster gewählt aus.” → “Dann habe ich das falsche Fenster ausgewählt.”: In the perfect, separable verbs keep their prefix and put ge after it: aus-ge-wählt, all one word at the end. The prefix only splits off in simple tenses.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: Can you see the spreadsheet or just my desktop?

    Show answer or example answer

Seht ihr die Tabelle oder nur meinen Desktop?

Seht is the ihr form of sehen. Oder offers two objects, and meinen Desktop is masculine accusative; nur narrows the second option.

  2. Put the words in order: ausgewählt / Dann / das / falsche / Fenster / habe / ich

    Show answer or example answer

Dann habe ich das falsche Fenster ausgewählt.

Dann draws a conclusion from the reply. The perfect uses habe plus the participle ausgewählt at the end, with the object in between.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Yes, the columns are clearly legible now.

    Show answer or example answer

Ja, die Spalten sind jetzt gut lesbar.

Ja confirms. Lesbar is formed from lesen plus -bar, and gut lesbar means clearly readable; jetzt contrasts with the earlier problem.
