The idea

Laufen describes an ongoing process: “Die Prüfung läuft noch.” Vorliegen (to be available) appears again in the negative: “liegt nicht vor”. Fehlen takes the person in the dative: mir fehlen. Rückmeldung geben zu means to report back on something. Der Stand is the current state, die Zusage a binding promise; the closing line asks to keep them apart. Formal Sie suits client or supervisor exchanges like this.

Other ways to say it

“Einen festen Termin kann ich Ihnen noch nicht nennen.” – Formal and clear; names the limit openly.

“Sobald ich mehr weiß, melde ich mich.” – Neutral; promises contact, not a result.

“Wir sind dran, aber fertig ist es noch nicht.” – Informal; dran sein means to be working on it.

  • Wann können Sie den nächsten Stand mitteilen? When can you provide the next update?

Watch out

“Dafür fehle ich noch bestätigte Angaben.” → “Dafür fehlen mir noch bestätigte Angaben.”: With fehlen, what is missing is the subject and the person lacking it is in the dative. English “I lack” makes learners use ich as the subject.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: The check is still ongoing; there is no result yet.

    Show answer or example answer

Die Prüfung läuft noch; ein Ergebnis liegt nicht vor.

Two main clauses linked by a semicolon. Läuft noch shows an ongoing process, and “liegt nicht vor” negates the separable verb vorliegen.

  2. Put the words in order: Angaben / bestätigte / Dafür / fehlen / mir / noch

    Show answer or example answer

Dafür fehlen mir noch bestätigte Angaben.

Dafür (for that, a completion date) opens the sentence. Fehlen is plural to match bestätigte Angaben, and mir is the dative person.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Thank you; please distinguish status from a commitment.

Danke, unterscheiden Sie bitte Stand und Zusage.

Danke, then a Sie imperative with bitte. “Stand und Zusage” are contrasted without articles to stress the difference.
