Explore 門 in physical gates and in words for a field of study or an introduction. Learn each reading with its whole word.

The idea

門 has eight strokes; follow the linked diagram. It is read もん alone and in 校門(こうもん), 専門(せんもん) and 入門(にゅうもん). These compounds connect the idea of a gate with a field or an entry into study.

Watch out

専門 means a specialty, not a physical gate; 入門 can mean an introduction to a subject. Do not confuse 門 with 問, which contains 口 and appears in words about questions.
