Use なる to describe a change in a person, condition or time.

The idea

なる is a godan verb meaning “become”. Use noun + に or な-adjective stem + に: 医者になる, 静かになる. For an い-adjective, replace final い with く: 寒くなる. Its polite past is なりました.

Watch out

Do not add に after an い-adjective: 寒くなる, not 寒いになる. The irregular adjective いい becomes よくなる.
