The idea
Prices are read as euros then cents without the word Cent: 2,90 € is zwei Euro neunzig. Ausgezeichnet sein here means to be priced, not excellent. Günstiger (cheaper) is the polite word; billiger can sound negative about quality. Etwas überprüfen lassen means to have something checked by someone else. Vielleicht + gehören zu is a careful way to suggest a reason without blaming the shop.
Other ways to say it
“Entschuldigung, an der Kasse ist der Preis höher als am Regal.” – Neutral description of the problem, suitable for any product.
“Könnten Sie bitte den Preis noch einmal prüfen?” – Short, polite request that leaves the explanation to the staff.
Examples
- Am Regal war dieser Tee günstiger ausgezeichnet. This tea had a lower price on the shelf.
- Welcher Preis stand auf dem Schild? What price was on the label?
- Dort standen zwei Euro neunzig. It said two euros ninety there.
- Ich lasse das Schild kurz überprüfen.I will have someone check the label.
- Vielleicht gehört das Angebot zu einer anderen Sorte.Perhaps the offer applies to another variety.
- Danke, ich warte gern auf die Auskunft.Thank you; I am happy to wait for the information.

Watch out
“Welche Preis stand auf dem Schild?” → “Welcher Preis stand auf dem Schild?”: Preis is masculine (der Preis), and the question word welch- takes the same endings as der. In the nominative masculine it must be welcher.
