The idea

Ander- + als compares two different things: eine andere Uhrzeit als …. Nennen (to name, to state) works with documents as subject. Times can be shortened to the hour: neun, zehn. Gültig means valid; die gültige Uhrzeit is the one that counts. Bestätigen takes a dative for the person and an accusative for the information: mir die Uhrzeit bestätigen. Aktuell means current, not “actual”.

Other ways to say it

“Ich habe zwei verschiedene Uhrzeiten für meinen Termin.” – Simple, neutral start to the conversation.

“Bleibt es bei neun Uhr, oder wurde der Termin verschoben?” – Direct check; bei etwas bleiben means it stays as planned.

Examples

  • Die Erinnerung nennt eine andere Uhrzeit als meine Karte. The reminder gives a different time from my card.
  • Welche beiden Uhrzeiten stehen dort?Which two times are shown there?
  • Auf der Karte neun, in der Nachricht zehn.Nine on the card, ten in the message.
  • Ich prüfe, welcher Eintrag aktuell ist.I will check which entry is current.
  • Bitte bestätigen Sie mir die gültige Uhrzeit schriftlich. Please confirm the valid time in writing.
  • Ich schicke Ihnen die bestätigte Angabe.I will send you the confirmed information.

Watch out

“Die Erinnerung nennt eine andere Uhrzeit wie meine Karte.” → “Die Erinnerung nennt eine andere Uhrzeit als meine Karte.”: After anders or ander- German uses als for comparison, just as after comparatives. Wie is for equality (so … wie), and in standard German it sounds wrong here.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: The reminder gives a different time from my card.
