The idea

Sollen in a question asks for instructions: “Soll ich …?” means “Do you want me to …?”. The passive with werden describes what is done to you: “Werde ich … aufgerufen?” (Will I be called?). “Mit Namen” is a fixed phrase without an article. “Vorgesehen sein für” means to be designated for. Sich melden means to report or check in; dort refers back to area B.

Other ways to say it

“Wo soll ich auf meinen Termin warten?” – Neutral open question when you have no idea where to go.

“Wie wird man hier aufgerufen, mit Namen oder mit Nummer?” – Practical question; some places use numbers on a screen.

Examples

  • Soll ich in diesem Wartebereich bleiben?Should I stay in this waiting area?
  • Für Ihren Termin ist Bereich B vorgesehen.Area B is designated for your appointment.
  • Werde ich dort mit Namen aufgerufen? Will I be called by name there?
  • Bitte fragen Sie die Kollegin vor Ort.Please ask the colleague there.
  • Ich möchte den Aufruf nicht verpassen.I do not want to miss being called.
  • Dann melden Sie sich dort noch einmal. Then check in there once more.

Watch out

“Werde ich dort mit Namen aufrufen?” → “Werde ich dort mit Namen aufgerufen?”: With the infinitive aufrufen the sentence means “Will I call (someone)?”. To say you will be called, the passive needs the participle aufgerufen.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: Should I stay in this waiting area?

    Show answer or example answer

Soll ich in diesem Wartebereich bleiben?

  2. Put the words in order: aufgerufen / dort / ich / mit / Namen / Werde

    Show answer or example answer

Werde ich dort mit Namen aufgerufen?
