The idea
Eine Antwort geben focuses on the speaker; erhalten focuses on the recipient. Auf eine Antwort warten does not establish that a reply will come. Ausstehen means the answer has not yet arrived. Ausweichen describes avoiding a direct answer, whereas präzisieren improves the detail of one already given.
