The idea

“In der Nachricht steht …” is the natural way to report written content; the place comes first and steht follows. “Für das Gespräch oder die Untersuchung” shares für across both nouns. Vereinbaren (to agree, to arrange) is common for appointments: “ein vereinbarter Termin”. In the indirect question “was vereinbart wurde”, the passive auxiliary goes to the end. Zuständig describes the person responsible.

Other ways to say it

“Was ist für heute geplant?” – Short neutral question about the day’s appointment.

“Ich dachte, heute findet nur ein Beratungsgespräch statt.” – Politely signals a different expectation.

Examples

  • Ist dieser Termin für das Gespräch oder die Untersuchung? Is this appointment for the discussion or the examination?
  • Ich prüfe den Eintrag in unserem Kalender.I will check the entry in our calendar.
  • In meiner Nachricht steht nur Besprechung. My message only says discussion.
  • Dann klären wir zuerst, was vereinbart wurde. Then let us first clarify what was agreed.
  • Bitte erklären Sie mir den vorgesehenen Ablauf. Please explain the planned sequence to me.
  • Ich hole dazu die zuständige Person.I will get the person responsible for that.

Watch out

“Meine Nachricht sagt nur Besprechung.” → “In meiner Nachricht steht nur Besprechung.”: English lets messages and signs “say” things, but in German written texts do not sagen. Use in … steht, or es heißt in der Nachricht.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: Is this appointment for the discussion or the examination?

    Show answer or example answer

Ist dieser Termin für das Gespräch oder die Untersuchung?

Verb-first question with ist; “für das Gespräch oder die Untersuchung” gives two options with für in the accusative.

  2. Put the words in order: Besprechung / In / meiner / Nachricht / nur / steht

    Show answer or example answer

In meiner Nachricht steht nur Besprechung.

“In meiner Nachricht” is dative and comes first, “steht” is second, and “Besprechung” is quoted as the written word.

  3. Write this sentence in German: I will get the person responsible for that.

    Show answer or example answer

Ich hole dazu die zuständige Person.

“Hole” is from holen (to fetch); dazu refers to the question, and “die zuständige Person” is the accusative object.
