The idea
“Etwas ist mir zu früh / zu teuer” uses a dative of the person affected. Aber links two main clauses without changing word order. Halb + next hour gives the half hour before it: halb zehn is 9:30. Dabei sein means to take part. Könnte offers something tentatively. Falls (in case) sends the verb to the end; nachkommen means to join later.
Other ways to say it
“Ich bin dabei, aber erst etwas später.” – Casual; agrees and limits in one sentence.
“Können wir den Start vielleicht um eine Stunde verschieben?” – Polite suggestion; um gives the amount of the shift.
Examples
- Der Ausflug klingt gut, aber der Start ist mir zu früh.The outing sounds good, but the start is too early for me.
- Welche Uhrzeit wäre für dich machbar? What time would be manageable for you?
- Ich könnte ab halb zehn dabei sein.I could join from half past nine.
- Dann prüfen wir eine spätere Verbindung. Then let us check a later service.
- Falls das nicht klappt, komme ich nach.If that does not work, I will join you later.
- So haben wir auch eine zweite Möglichkeit. That way we also have a second option.

Watch out
“Ich könnte ab halb zehn dabei sein. (gemeint: 10:30 Uhr)” → “Ich könnte ab halb elf dabei sein.”: German halb counts towards the next hour: halb zehn is 9:30, not 10:30. English speakers often read “half ten” as 10:30 and arrive an hour late.

Der Ausflug klingt gut, aber der Start ist mir zu früh.
Two main clauses joined by “aber”: praise first, then “der Start ist mir zu früh”, with dative mir for the person affected.
Put the words in order: ab / dabei / halb / Ich / könnte / sein / zehn
Show answer or example answer
Ich könnte ab halb zehn dabei sein.
“Könnte” is tentative; “ab halb zehn” means from 9:30 on, and “dabei sein” ends the sentence.
Write this sentence in German: That way we also have a second option.
Show answer or example answer
So haben wir auch eine zweite Möglichkeit.
“So” sums up the result; “eine zweite Möglichkeit” is accusative after haben, and “auch” adds it to the main plan.
