The idea

Helfen always takes the dative: ich helfe dir, beim Aufbau helfen. Bei + nominalised verb (beim Aufbau, beim Aufräumen) names the activity. Stattdessen (instead) is one word and an adverb. Euer/eure addresses the hosts as a pair or group. “Wäre … hilfreich” uses Konjunktiv II to accept politely. “Sich freuen auf” + accusative looks forward to something.

Other ways to say it

“Kann ich euch sonst irgendwie unterstützen?” – Casual and open offer of support.

“Darf ich wenigstens einen Kuchen mitbringen?” – Friendly compromise; wenigstens means at least.

Watch out

“Ich helfe dich gern beim Aufbau.” → “Ich helfe dir gern beim Aufbau.”: Helfen is one of the verbs that always take the dative, even though English “help you” looks like a direct object. So it is dir, not dich.

    Show answer or example answer

In eurer Einladung steht bitte keine Geschenke.

“In eurer Einladung” is dative; the quoted words “bitte keine Geschenke” work as one block, the subject of steht.

  2. Put the words in order: Aufbau / beim / helfen / ich / Soll / stattdessen

    Show answer or example answer

Soll ich stattdessen beim Aufbau helfen?

“Soll ich” offers help; “stattdessen” replaces the gift, and “beim Aufbau” names the task in the dative.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Good; we look forward to your help.

    Show answer or example answer
