The idea

Auf das Zimmer bringen uses the accusative because it is a direction; aufs is the spoken contraction. Room numbers are said as full numbers or digit by digit: zweihundertacht or zwei-null-acht. In Zimmer 208 needs no article before a number. Wohnen also covers staying at a hotel. Nach etwas fragen (to ask for something available) takes the dative: nach einer verfügbaren Decke.

Other ways to say it

“Hätten Sie noch eine Decke für uns?” – Short and friendly; works at the reception desk.

“Uns ist nachts etwas kalt. Gibt es eine zweite Decke?” – Gives the reason first, then asks.

  • Sind Sie in den nächsten Minuten dort? Will you be there in the next few minutes?

Watch out

“Wir leben in Zimmer zweihundertacht.” → “Wir wohnen in Zimmer zweihundertacht.”: Leben means to live in a broad sense (be alive, live somewhere long-term). For staying in a room or hotel, German uses wohnen.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: Could you bring an extra blanket to the room?

    Show answer or example answer

Könnten Sie eine zusätzliche Decke aufs Zimmer bringen?

Könnten Sie is a polite request, eine zusätzliche Decke the accusative object, and aufs Zimmer the direction. Bringen ends the sentence.

  2. Put the words in order: in / Wir / wohnen / Zimmer / zweihundertacht

    Show answer or example answer

    Wir wohnen in Zimmer zweihundertacht.

Wohnen describes staying there. In Zimmer zweihundertacht has no article because a number identifies the room.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Then I will ask about an available blanket.

    Show answer or example answer

Dann frage ich nach einer verfügbaren Decke.

Dann starts the sentence, so frage comes before ich. Nach einer verfügbaren Decke is dative; verfügbar means available.
