The idea

Fault descriptions use bleiben plus an adjective for a lasting state (“bleibt schwarz”) and “nach dem” plus a nominalised infinitive for timing: nach dem Einschalten, nach dem Laden. “Seit” with the present describes since when: “Seit dem letzten Laden tritt es auf.” Auftreten (to occur) is separable. Vorab means in advance; Störung is a fault.

Other ways to say it

“Soll ich vorher ein Backup machen?” – Asks directly about backing up data; common term.

“Brauchen Sie meinen Entsperrcode?” – Clarifies whether they need your unlock code; decide yourself whether to share it.

Watch out

“Seit dem letzten Laden es tritt jedes Mal auf.” → “Seit dem letzten Laden tritt es jedes Mal auf.”: When a time phrase opens a main clause, the verb must come second, directly after it. The subject es moves behind the verb.

Try it yourself

  1. Translate into German: Do I need to prepare anything for the inspection?

    Show answer or example answer

Muss ich für die Prüfung etwas vorbereiten?

“Muss ich” asks about an obligation; “für die Prüfung” names the purpose, and “etwas vorbereiten” closes the question.

  2. Put the words in order: Bildschirm / bleibt / dem / Der / Einschalten / nach / schwarz

    Show answer or example answer

Der Bildschirm bleibt nach dem Einschalten schwarz.

“Der Bildschirm” is the subject; “bleibt … schwarz” describes a lasting state, and “nach dem Einschalten” gives the moment.

  3. Write this sentence in German: Please explain the inspection procedure to me beforehand.

    Show answer or example answer

Bitte erklären Sie mir vorab den Prüfablauf.

“Bitte erklären Sie” is a polite imperative; “mir” is dative, “vorab” means in advance, and “den Prüfablauf” is accusative.
