The idea
“Es geht mir um” plus accusative states what matters to you; the person is dative, and mir can open the sentence: “Mir geht es um eine Einschätzung.” “Voraussichtlich” means expected or likely. “Einen Auftrag erteilen” is the formal way to commission work. “Ob” after entscheiden sends the verb to the end: “ob ich den Auftrag erteile”. A Kostenvoranschlag is a written cost estimate.
Other ways to say it
“Was würde die Reparatur ungefähr kosten?” – Polite price question in Konjunktiv II.
“Lohnt sich die Reparatur bei diesen Schuhen noch?” – Asks whether the repair is worth it at all.
Examples
- Können Sie nur diese lose Naht reparieren? Can you repair just this loose seam?

- Mir geht es zunächst um eine Einschätzung. For now, I would like an assessment.
- Soll ich Ihnen die möglichen Arbeiten erklären?Shall I explain the possible work to you?
- Ja, bitte nennen Sie auch den voraussichtlichen Preis.Yes, please also tell me the expected price.

Watch out
“Ich gehe es zunächst um eine Einschätzung.” → “Mir geht es zunächst um eine Einschätzung.”: In “es geht um”, es is the subject and the person is a dative. Learners copy the English “I” as subject, but German needs mir.
Try it yourself
Translate into German: Can you repair just this loose seam?
Show answer or example answer
Können Sie nur diese lose Naht reparieren?
“Können Sie” opens the request; “nur” limits it, and “diese lose Naht” is feminine accusative before “reparieren”.
Put the words in order: eine / Einschätzung / es / geht / Mir / um / zunächst
Show answer or example answer
Mir geht es zunächst um eine Einschätzung.
The dative “Mir” stands first, so “geht” is second and “es” follows; “um eine Einschätzung” names the concern.
Write this sentence in German: I will decide afterwards whether to commission the work.
Show answer or example answer
Ich entscheide danach, ob ich den Auftrag erteile.
“Danach” makes the decision come later; the ob-clause puts “erteile” at the end after “den Auftrag”.
